Our Renewal Story

I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me… Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did it to me.”

-Matthew 25:35-40

Dear Friends

At Kirkwood UMC we know that participating in God’s renewal story doesn’t just mean personal spiritual renewal. It means bringing hope and renewal to the least of these. It means creating spaces where the lonely, the hurting, the struggling, and the stranger find hope and community. When we participate in God’s renewal story, we are participating in God’s renewal not just for us, but for the whole weary world.

During this short 6-month fiscal year, I have already seen so much of God’s renewal unfold. The people of KUMC have passionately responded to relief efforts and justice issues. I have seen people finding new ways to serve and help neighbors both locally and globally. I have seen new families connect and find a church home. I have seen weary souls refreshed and inspired, not just on Sundays — but through community groups and events that happen between worship services.  This is a place where the grieving are surrounded with care and support, where kids and youth find life-giving community, and where people of all ages join together to love boldly, serve joyfully, and lead courageously. I see folks from our community finding a safe place to connect. From after school Play Cafe in the gym, to over 100 children participating in VBS, to local missional partnerships and trips to Guatemala, to a growing youth group for our teens, to AA and Al Anon groups, to Life Groups and support groups, and so much more —  every single week hundreds of people utilize KUMC’s building and resources. Every week, we bring renewal to countless individuals and to our community. And I believe God has even more renewal in store in 2026.

Continuing to Help Us All Thrive

Right now, you and your family might be feeling precarious, or you might be in a season of abundance. If you are struggling, I want you to know KUMC is here to help. We are here to support, to listen, to pray with and for you, and to walk alongside you helping find you the resources you need. On the other hand, if you are in a position to give generously, I would like to ask you to consider the story of Renewal that is unfolding through KUMC right here in Kirkwood, MO. We need your help to make sure that these life-changing ministries continue to grow and thrive. We need your help to support our building, our staff, and our programs. Will you consider giving more to help those who have less?

This year, we are in a transition to change KUMC’s fiscal year to align with the calendar year. The new fiscal year will be January 2026 - December of 2026. If you pledged to the 6-month 2025 fiscal year (July - December of 2025), we are encouraging you to simply extend that pledge by doubling your six month commitment for the new 12-month fiscal year/2026 calendar year. We continue to have a two-tiered pledging approach. Committing to grow both of these funds will allow for our ministries of renewal to continue to unfold.

Renewal for Today and for Tomorrow

Renewal for Today | General Budget  12-month Operating Expenses: $1,104,000

As insurance rates, utilities, and other building costs continue to rise, KUMC's annual operating budget continues to transform lives by embodying God’s renewal story in real, relevant ways: through in-person and online worship, mission opportunities, children's ministries, music programs, youth group, racial justice, inclusive ministries, community outreach, adult discipleship, and countless other ministries that are made possible through funding staff, utilities, supplies, curriculums, and more. This budget allows us to continue the work of opening our doors to our community, feeding the hungry, helping the hurting, and offering hope and renewal in the here and now.

Renewal for Tomorrow | Building Support and Debt Reduction Fund 12-month need: $90,000

The reality of a large building is that it requires large scale maintenance projects. Like any home, as years go by we have to repair the roof, replace furnaces, and maintain our spaces so they can be utilized for ministry. These large scale projects are too costly to be absorbed into the annual budget, so often require outside financing. Your expanded giving beyond that annual budget will be utilized to pay KUMC’s mortgage and reduce current and future debt for capital maintenance projects, freeing up more funds for ministries and bring renewal for years to come.
