KUMC Mission Volunteer Opportunities

Do you like getting out and volunteering in person? Here are the current opportunities available to you:

  • Hands on Kirkwood

    Saturday, October 7, 8:30 am - 1 pm

Hands on Kirkwood is a one-day mission blitz for our community taking place on Oct 7, 2023 from 8:30 am - 1:30 pm. The mission of this event is to equip ALL to follow the command to love our neighbors as ourselves, and to inspire ALL to make serving others more than a one-day event but instead a daily occurrence.

Many serving opportunities are available such as collecting food for Kirkcare, serving in the Winter Clothing Store, doing yard projects for neighbors in need, and the list goes on. This year Kirkwood United Methodist is hosting a Health and Wellness Fair, and volunteers will be needed for this effort as well.

Here are some ways to get involved:

    1. Bring your gently used winter clothing/accessories to the Hands on Kirkwood donation box located outside the Connections Center. These items will be available to neighbors in need at the Winter Clothing Store.

    2. Register as a Hands on Kirkwood volunteer using the following link: https://www.handsonkirkwood.org/event-details//form

    3. Volunteer to work at the Health and Wellness Fair by emailing megan@kirkwoodumc.org

  • Health and Wellness Fair

To volunteer to help on October 7th at KUMC, or if you know of any health vendors or organizations you think may be helpful in creating a comprehensive approach to this event, email Megan Daniels.

Hymns of Comfort

With the uncertainties that COVID-19 introduced into our daily lives, Music Director Dolan Bayless decided to create a new weekly series called Hymns of Comfort, knowing how music has the power to uplift our spirits. Each Week Dolan presents the story behind a hymn, along with the help of Dana Self our organist that plays the music in the background. Even with the isolation of COVID -19 now behind us, this series has proven to be quite popular and will continue. You are invited to enjoy the Hymns of Comfort series using the vimeo showcase right here.

Mission in Memory and Honor Dresser Build

Saturday, Nov 5 from 10 am - 12 pm & Sunday, Nov 6 from 9 - 11:30 am

What: Building IKEA dressers for Home Sweet Home Who: Builders, no experience necessary! Consider bringing a friend.

When: Saturday, Nov. 5 and Sunday, Nov. 6 Where: KUMC Gym

Why: With your help, Home Sweet Home Furniture Bank can provide each child they serve with a dresser of their very own. Please consider honoring the memory of someone you have lost or someone special in your life by building and/or donating a dresser.

Donations are appreciated but not required to build, and they can be made via Realm or by check with "Dresser Build" in the memo (dresser cost = $60). These IKEA dressers are very easy to construct; two people can build one in one hour. Will you help provide storage for the children of Home Sweet Home? If you are unable to attend the event but would like to build a dresser, please contact mission@kirkwoodumc to check out a dresser kit to build at home.

The mission of Home Sweet Home is to give families transitioning from homelessness a sense of pride and to improve the quality of their lives by providing basic household furnishings. Building dressers...furnishing hope.

  • disciple bible study

Disciple aims at transformation, not just information. Students use the Bible and the study manual to complete daily reading assignments, generally about 30 minutes of reading per day, and meet weekly for 2 – 2 ½ hours for discussion, videos, and prayer.  Classes are led by trained lay facilitators.  All students are required to have their own study Bible with commentary.  We recommend The New Interpreter’s Study Bible (NRSV) or New Oxford Annotated Bible with Apocrypha (NRSV).

Please Note:  While it is required that Disciple I be completed first, the remaining Disciple Bible Study courses may be taken in any order.

    WORSHIP SCHEDULE | circlerightarrow

Where should I go when I arrive?

Enter through the glass doors to the left of the red doors off the parking lot. You will be greeted by an Ambassador, wearing a red vest, who will answer any questions you may have and walk you to your destination if you desire.

    What do I wear?

Wear whatever you feel comfortable in! You’ll see people dressed in casual clothes and suits. We’re much more interested in meeting you and helping you to feel at home than in what you choose to wear.

Where are you located?  | circlerightarrow

Kirkwood UMC is located in the heart of Kirkwood, one block West of Kirkwood Ave (Lindbergh Ave. outside of Kirkwood), on Adams and Clay, 2 blocks North of the train station.

Where do I take my kids?

    • CHILD CARE/SUNDAY SCHOOL: Childcare is available for children six weeks to 5 years old from 8:45 am – 11:45 am in rooms 203 – 205. Sunday School is available during the 9 am service only. We will make sure that you and your child are comfortable before you leave the room. You can have a peace of mind knowing that all of our staff and adult servants must pass a thorough background check and training in order to serve.
    • WORSHIPChildren are always welcome to worship alongside their parents.
    • KIDS CORNER: We offer a kids corner in the front left of the sanctuary with toys for infants.
    • CRY ROOM: In the Sanctuary you’ll notice the large clear glass windows on the left side. Exit the Sanctuary and access that room through the lounge. An Ambassador will be happy to guide you there if you ask. You will be able to sit with your child in this sound proof room and still see and hear the service.

    Anything else I should know?

When you attend a service at Kirkwood UMC, make sure to fill out a connect card in your bulletin and place it in the offering basket to let us know you were here. Please know that you do not need to be a member of Kirkwood UMC in order to partake in communion.
