Adventsmusiken Concerts

WEDNESDAYS AT NOON IN KUMC'S SANCTUARY

You're invited to drop in Wednesdays at noon for any of these three, 30-minute holiday concerts in KUMC's Sanctuary. Take a break in the middle of your day to come and enjoy the sounds a music of the holidays! 

  • Burnell Hackman, Organist

    Wednesday, December 1, 2021, at 12 pm

    The first Adventsmusikens concert features an organ concert played by Burnell Hackman, Organist and Director of Music at Peace Lutheran Church, St. Louis, MO.  Mr. Hackman is an accomplished church musician and organist.  His repertoire will include pieces for Advent and Christmas composed by various composers.

  • Queens of Swing

    Wednesday, December 8, 2021, at 12 pm

    Concert presented by the Queens of Swing.  This group presents a very enjoyable Christmas program and were well received several years ago for their first performance on the Adventsmusiken series. The Queens of Swing's jazzy tunes will have you tapping your foot to the beat and whistling a merry tune for the rest of the day!

  • The FrontenAc Voices

    Wednesday, December 15, 2021, at 12 pm

    The Frontenac Voices are the top choir at St. Joseph's Academy.  It is an audition-only ensemble made up of Sophomore, Juniors, and Seniors who are also enrolled in the Advanced Chorus.  The choir sings challenging repertoire in a smaller, chamber choir setting. They perform two concerts a year and represent the Academy by singing at school liturgies, commencement, and off-campus events throughout the year. Now is your chance to come and hear the beautiful voices of The Frontenac Voices at KUMC!

Holiday Concerts at KUMC

Kirkwood United Methodist Church has a robust music program that includes choirs from ages 3 and up, as well as musicians and an associated handbell ensemble to provide you with several holiday concerts. This year we even have KUMC member Joanna Serenko, a Finalist on NBC's The Voice in 2020, performing an outdoor community concert in the parking lot with current musical partner Tyler Dale. You are welcome to come to Kirkwood United Methodist Church to attend any or all of the following musical programs and concerts listed below. 

  • Twelve Days of Christmas Bells

    Sunday, December 12, 2021, 7:00 pm

    The ReBELLion Handbell Ensemble program is titled Twelve Days of Christmas Bells and features traditional carols played on a six-octave set of handbells and a five-octave set of chimes.  Joining the 14 ringers is percussionist Ethan Coble, a senior at Kirkwood High School.  The ReBELLion Ensemble has been in existence for more than 10 years and is comprised of auditioned handbell musicians from the area.  


    Some of the favorite Christmas tunes in the concert repertoire include The Little Drummer Boy, White Christmas, Away in A Manger, and the Polish Carol Infant Holy, Infant Lowly.  The concert ends with a rousing edition of the Twelve Days of Christmas All of the ReBELLion Concerts are open to the public.  A retiring offering will be received.  ReBELLion is under the direction of Dolan Bayless, founder of ReBELLion, and Director of Traditional Worship and Music at Kirkwood United Methodist Church.

  • ReBELLion Handbell Ensemble & St. Louis Symphony Concert

    Saturday, December 18, 2021, 7:00 pm

    The St. Louis Wind Symphony and ReBELLion Handbell Ensemble began collaborating on a Christmas program several years ago.  The 2021 edition of the combined concert will feature pieces played by the Wind Symphony and several pieces played by the ReBELLion Handbell Ensemble.  Four pieces have been arranged for the combined Wind Symphony and ReBELLion to play together.  Christmas Bells Overture will open the concert with the combined group playing arrangements of Christmas Carols as arranged for band and bells by Indianapolis composer Douglas Wagner.  A second piece Tidings by Wagner uses the combined instrumentation in a setting of another set of carols.  The audience is invited to sing carols as arranged by James Ployhar and accompanied by both handbells and wind instruments.  The final piece of the program has become an audience favorite as ReBELLion and the St. Louis Wind Symphony combine to play Sleigh Ride.  This concert is open to the public and a retiring offering will be received to support future performances by the two groups.


  • A Family Christmas Spectacular

    Sunday, December 19 at 4 pm in the Commons

    Bring your whole family and enjoy a fun afternoon of family favorite music and special visits from Santa Claus, Frosty, and Buddy the Elf as well as Celebration and Cherub Choirs.  Hear songs from Polar Express, a Charlie Brown Christmas, familiar carols and Christmas classics.  Kids will have a chance to be on stage and participate as well!  This concert is free and open to the public. 

  • Santa's After Party

    Sunday, December 19 at 5:30 pm on the Plaza

    The fun was only beginning on this Sunday, because following the Christmas Spectacular, Santa's After Party begins at 5:30 PM in KUMC's parking lot, weather permitting. Join the fun outdoors around firepits to listen to an outdoor concert by Joanna Serenko and Tyler Dale performing on the plaza in front of the big red doors. There will be a hot chocolate station where you can purchase hot chocolate bombs to enjoy while you watch the show and fun games and activities for children. And bring your phone to capture all of the fun of the evening with your family or friends to take pictures with special guest Santa in KUMC's lobby! 

LONGEST NIGHT WORSHIP

TUESDAY, DECEMBER 21 , 2021, 7 PM , SANCTUARY

Longest Night Worship is for those experiencing loss or grieving during the holiday season. You're invited to come to this special worship opportunity on the longest night of the year to remember those special to you during a time that can be so difficult without them. 

Christmas Eve Worship

Friday, December 24

All are welcome to come to  worship on Christmas Eve at Kirkwood Methodist Church. 

All worship services will be held in KUMC's Sanctuary. Worship will include Communion and end with the singing of "Silent Night" by candlelight. Here are the worship times to choose from:


3 PM: Family Worship

Family Worship will feature KUMC's Children's Choirs, both Celebration and Cherubs, and also Journey Youth Choir. 

This is the perfect time for families with young children to engage their interest and be home by the early evening.


7 PM: Contemporary Worship

Contemporary Worship will feature KUMC's Contemporary Band.


11 PM: Traditional Worship

Traditional Worship will feature KUMC's Chancel Choir.
